Molasses Oat Bread

Okay, I have been baking all day! I made six loaves of bread and this is one of the ones a pulled out of the oven.  I will post the next one in a couple of minutes: chocolate bread! This is one of my mom’s  favorites!  I found it on taste of home It is at it’s best, in my opinion, toasted in the toaster with cream cheese on it, or butter.  Give it a try and maybe it will become one of your favorites too!

4 cups of boiling water

2 cup of old fashioned oats

1 cup of molasses

3 tbsps. of canola oil

1/4 cup sugar

3 tsps. of  salt

1 1/2 tsps. yeast

9-10 cups of all-purpose flour


In a mixing bowl, combine the first six ingredients cool to 110-115 degrees. Add yeast; mix well. Add enough flour to form a soft dough. Turn on to a floured surface; need until smooth and elastic, about 6-8 minutes. Place in a greased bowl turning once to grease top. cover and let rise in a warm place until doubled, about 1 1/2 hours. Punch dough down and divide into thirds, shape into loaves. Place into three greased 9″ by 5″ by 3″ loaf pans. Cover and let rise until doubled, about one hour. Bake at 350 degrees 40-45 minutes or until golden brown.

Yields: three loaves.
