Fiesta Friday: Homemade Pizza

pepporoni-pizza-homemade

Hello everyone! This is my first Fiesta Friday, and I am so excited! Thanks to our lovely host at the Novice Gardener. She has hosted so many parties and I am happy to join Party #12!

I am going to share a very important part of my life: Family Night. Ever since I was very little we have always set aside Friday to do something fun as a family. Granted, it gets very loud with all twelve of us. The age range and excitement always makes for a very fun evening. 🙂 Anyways, we watch movies, play games, and for the past two years, we’ve added homemade pizza to the menu. I am convinced this is the best recipe for pizza out there. I make it with my sister, Kasey, and it is always so much fun! Another recipe I enjoy a lot, for a more rushed evening, is homemade frozen pizza. We have done this, and it works really well. Here is the link to the recipe we used.

The amazing thing about this pizza is you can have what ever toppings you feel like having! We have done taco, barbeque, meat-lovers, Alfredo, Hawaiian, and more recently, ranch chicken. Trust me, this was a total hit! I will share more on that one later….

Here is the basic recipe for the pizza crust!

Sheet Pan Pizza Crust

1-3/4 cup extra virgin olive oil (divided)
5-1/4 cups warm water
3 tablespoons sugar
15 cups flour
4 tablespoons + 1-1/2 teaspoons yeast
2 tablespoons salt

Adjust oven rack to lowest position at preheat to 200 degrees.  When oven
reaches 200 degrees, turn off oven.
Grease large bowl.  Evenly coat four 18×13 rimmed baking sheets with 1/4 cup
oil (that would use a total of 1 cup oil).

In large mixer, combine 3/4 cup olive oil, warm
water, sugar, yeast, and salt.
Cover and let stand for 10 minutes so yeast has a chance to work.
While the mixer is running, add flour until dough pulls away and dough is
sticky and not dry.
Transfer to greased bowl and cover with plastic wrap which has been sprayed
also.  Place in warm oven to rise for 30 minutes.

On lightly floured surface, divide dough into 4 pieces, and roll to a size
just a bit larger than the sheet pan.
Transfer to sheet pan, pressing dough into corners (dough is very elastic).
Let sit for about 20 minutes.

Preheat oven to 450 degrees.  Using fingers, make indentation all over
dough.  Sprinkle each
crust with 1 cup parmesan cheese and bake for 7-10 minutes.
Remove from oven, put on sauce and toppings.  Bake 12-15 minutes (with our oven: we put two pizzas in for 9 minutes then swap and cook for another 9)  or until golden.

Now, on this lovely ranch-chicken one you see above.

Ranch-Chicken Pizza:

Ingredients:

1 cup of Ranch Dressing

1/2 cup of Parmesan Cheese

2 large  Diced  Tomatoes

Cheddar/Mozzarella Cheese for topping

Chicken for topping

Directions:

Top pizza with ranch and parmesan cheese. Mix them together on the pizza to make a clumpy sauce. Now, top with mozzarella and cheddar cheese. Add the tomatoes and cooked chicken.

*Note: You could easily make this vegetarian by omitting the chicken and using peppers.

Well, that’s all I have, but I hope you enjoy it! Happy Fiesta Friday!

  3. Hi Kloe! So wonderful to see you at Fiesta Friday — welcome, and thanks for bringing this very impressively sized sheet pizza. Did you say there are 12 in your family for Family Night? I had 9 in my immediate family and thought that was a lot! 🙂 The more, the merrier, I say, just like with this blog party! Happy Fiesta Friday!

  4. Welcome to Fiesta Friday Kloe! You’ll find it’s a fun bunch. Pizza is the perfect offering, I bet this sheet pan variety feeds quite a few! How many of these need to be made to feed your family of 12? A few I bet! I been looking for a good homemade dough recipe, I’ll give this one a go for the next pizza night at our house.

  5. I adore pizza, too, Kloe – but as I’m hopeless at pastry, and as I really like my pizza crust THIN, I simply use lebanese bread for the base – so easy, especially for a person on her own. I heat the oven to 250° with the flat tray in it at the top, and put the pizaa together while that’s happening. One of my many favourites is onions and mushrooms cooked a bit, with blanched asparagus and strips of red capsicum for crunch. But I have many that are all delicious; so pizzas are GREAT !!!

  6. love the idea of making pizza on a sheet pan–brilliant! Looks fantastic, Kloe and also love your stories of Family Night. Great tradition.

  7. Hey Kloe! Welcome to Fiesta Friday! So glad you could join us and bring this awesome homemade pizza. This will go over very well here with the FF gang! Yum!

  8. Homemade pizza is the best because you tailor-make it to suit your palate…what a great idea. It looks fresh and inviting!

  9. So happy to see you at Fiesta Friday, Kloe! I’m so impressed you made homemade pizza from scratch – it looks delicious and I’d love to have a slice or three right now 🙂 Your story reminds me of my family’s tradition when I was young of Sunday pizza night – my mom would make homemade pizzas for us and we’d watch the Muppet Show on tv – ha! The good ol’ days… I hope you keep your family night tradition going!

    • Thanks! I am so happy to join the party! Don’t those nights make the best memories!?!? I love working in the noisy kitchen with my family on the weekends. He-he! The Muppets are funny, we’ve seen a couple of the those too.

Have a lovely day and stop by again soon!

  10. This brings back memories. My best friend’s Mom used to make sheet pan pizza (when we were growing up) and I thought it was so clever and special. I was always glad when I was invited to join for dinner on pizza night.

You have a houseful which would sure make pizza night fun. Welcome to the party.

  11. Wow! I made homemade pizza once but it sure didn’t look as good and tasty and delicious as yours 😀 It looks sooooooooo good! Best looking pizza I have ever seen! And I’m sure it’s the best tasting pizza ever too 😀
